How do I read the data recorded on my legacy KeySpyer PS2 Standard 64k - 256k?

Download Software

This software is only used with the (legacy) 64k - 256k PS2 models to view the data log.

The KeySpyer Downloader software does not need to be installed on the target machine you want to monitor—only on the computer you will be using to analyze the log data.

Windows Unix / Linux / Mac[?]
keyspyer.exe keyspyer_unix_1.1.tgz

Install and run the software, then go to:

File -> Preferences -> Select Layout File and change it to the keyboard layout you use (English - US Standard is used by default).

To access the recorded data, first make sure the application window is active, then type the default password and press ENTER.

Playback mode

Once data has been acquired in record mode, you can transmit it to any other computer. Install the KeySpyer Downloader application first (see above).

  1. Connect the KeySpyer in the same way as in record mode.
  2. Run the provided KeySpyer Downloader application. Make sure it is the active application.
  3. Type in the password appropriate for your device and press Enter. The password will be one of the following (if one does not work, try the other):
    • gxnfrpds
    • OR vsnlpbtj
  4. Data download from the KeySpyer will occur automatically. Do not change the active application while transmitting! Transmission can be stopped at any time by pressing a key.
  5. Data can now be analyzed and searched.

Memory erasing

There is no actual need for memory erasing in the KeySpyers, as the memory buffer works in a circular mode. This means, that once memory is full, logging will automatically start over from the first location. However, a special erase option exists, allowing complete hardware 'cleaning' of the internal memory chip.

To initiate memory contents erasing, connect the KeySpyer to the PC (as in standard record mode) and run the KeySpyer Downloader application. Type in the password supplied with the device, followed by Backspace (instead of Enter like in download mode). This will initiate memory cleaning, indicated on the computer by a special dialog. Do not disturb the computer while erasing.

Memory erasing will take typically a few minutes (around 5 minutes for the 64kB version). After the erasing process finishes, the recorder will return to its initial state. Deleted data cannot be retrieved from the KeySpyer!
